About This Profile
My name is McKade. I am 14 years old. I first learned about LWB when I was 9 years old. My brother received cleft lip repair through this organization and lived in foster care. When we went to China to bring home my little sister, I was able to visit LWB's healing homes. It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget, mostly because I met my brother Joel there.
My three siblings have special needs and so we spend a great deal of time at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. While there my family spends as much time as possible in the Forever Young playroom. The books and toys make the time more enjoyable during hard stays. I learned that children in China do not have this luxury; so when LWB announced that two hospitals in China where they send children for medical care agreed to add a library/playroom, I knew I wanted to help. For my Eagle Scout project I’m hoping to raise all the funds needed to make this happen.
I know going to the hospital can be very scary. I want to help the children to not be scared, and I think this will be a great distraction for those kids needing surgery. I was able to bring supplies to the healing homes when I was 10, and I am excited to now be able to help kids spending time in the hospital. Thank you for your support.
