Foster Care Program

Based on the belief that every child deserves a family of his or her own, LWB’s Foster Care Program is changing lives in Cambodia, China, India, and Uganda. We have dedicated staff who work directly with foster families and visit each child monthly to assess overall health and development. These monthly visits allow us to quickly identify when a child has additional needs, such as supplemental nutrition or medical issues.

You can make a difference in the life of a child through a one-time or monthly donation to our foster care program or by sponsoring a child. Donors will receive regular updates and photos.

Foster care efforts

Cambodia and Safe Haven foster care

In Cambodia, LWB provides foster care for orphaned and abandoned children. Additionally our Safe Haven Foster Care Program provides care for children who have been trafficked or severely abused.

China on-site family care

In China, LWB works collaboratively with orphanages to transition children into caring and supportive families living in specially remodeled apartments within the orphanage, providing the children with the individual care needed to reach their full potential.

India foster care

LWB has partnered with a well-respected charity in Odisha to provide orphaned and relinquished children with loving foster care families.  Despite foster care guidelines established nationally in 2015, many children remain in institutional care.  We are thrilled to be part of an early success program to allow children to grow up in loving families.

Uganda foster care

In Uganda, LWB is one of the first charities in the region to implement home-based care for orphaned and abandoned children. Our team of trained social workers works to find permanency for each child referred to our programs, either through kinship care, short- and long-term foster care, or domestic adoption.

Featured success story

Julia from Uganda

In Uganda, it is not uncommon for children born with special needs to find themselves abandoned to institutional care. Such was the case of Julia, who was taken to an orphanage after her mother died and her new stepmother felt ill equipped to parent a child with moderate cerebral palsy. We believe every child deserves to grow up in a family; so Julia became part of LWB’s Mukono Foster Care program.

Julia was placed in a foster family who was happy to welcome her into their home regardless of her medical condition. Julia loves to play with her foster sisters and is always happy to help out around the house. Her family reports that she greets everyone in her path with a smile! She has some mobility and speech challenges, but she has been able to attend a school in her neighborhood that has worked hard to help accommodate these needs. With the support and care of her very own family, we have seen Julia absolutely bloom.
