Bekah’s Watermelon Run Returns!

Posted on

Bekah would have been ten this year.

When Bekah was a baby living in China, she had heart surgery through Love Without Boundaries and was cared for at our Heartbridge Healing Home. Just months after being adopted and coming home with her family, she tragically passed away. In her memory, Bekah’s Watermelon Run was created.

Bekah’s Watermelon Run+Walk+Roll is a 5K race in Colorado that welcomes participants to run, walk, wheel or enjoy a stroller ride (and a slice of watermelon — Bekah’s favorite!) along the accessible 5K / 3.1-mile course to raise funds for Love Without Boundaries Foundation and Biblia Global.

Bekah’s sister created this 5K as a way to honor her and raise funds for “other little Bekahs”. Each year, the family’s goal is to raise $30,000, much of which is donated to help children with medical needs. This year, they are dreaming big and hoping to raise $40,000!

The 2021 Bekah’s Watermelon Run+Walk+Roll 5K (BR5K) will be held Sunday, September 12 at Great Lawn Park in the Lowry part of Denver. at 9:04 am (the start time honors Bekah’s birthday:  9/4. The course is a completely accessible 5k for runners, walkers, strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers.

Everyone who registers by August 29 will be able to ensure that they can get a commemorative BR5k shirt in the size they desire! However, race day registration on September 12 is also available.

Funds raised will be used to help children in our medical programs in need of surgery like Nadia. Nadia and three other children in our Unity Initiative are hoping to have heart surgeries funded by BR5K.

Please consider participating in or supporting this incredible fundraiser which does so much good for so many children!
