In 2006 we brainstormed about how we could help children who are either preparing for, or recovering from surgery in order to provide the extra care they need to heal. Several kids were underweight, had chronic infections, or simply needed a higher level of care than could be provided at their orphanage. Thankfully an opportunity presented itself and Heartbridge was begun. Heartbridge is located on the 2nd floor of New Hope Foundation's home in Beijing. Once a nine-bed unit it has now been expanded to provide a total of eighteen beds for medically fragile children. Love Without Boundaries has several children receiving surgery each month. Whether these kids are recovering afterward or have other chronic health issues, we have found that these fragile children desperately need specialized medical and emotional care. We are always on the look out for children in need of this extra support. Recommendations are given to the Heartbridge coordinator who then works with the New Hope Foundation staff to find a bed for that child in the Heartbridge Unit. It costs approximately $75,600 per year to operate LWB’s Heartbridge Pediatric Healing Unit. This breaks down to a monthly cost of $350 per child. This money provides each child with : Individual cribs that are clean, colorful and safe. Climate controlled rooms All prescribed medication Quality nutrition 3 children to 1 caregiver ratio Caregivers with specialized training Heartbridge nurse available day and night Regular exams by a doctor Transportation to and from medical appointments Familiar and loving caregivers who stay with children during medical tests and hospitalizations Routine medical supplies There are many opportunities to help. In order to fully fund the care the children receive at Heartbridge we will need several sponsors for each child in our care. Each sponsor will receive a monthly update and photos of their sponsored child. A donation in any increment of $50 will greatly increase the number of children we can assist. Or you can choose to be the sole provider for one of these children. You will receive monthly updates on your sponsored child(ren). Each update will include a photo of each of your sponsored children, as well as a short report on how they are doing and a story that will provide you a little insight into your sponsored child’s personality. We graciously accept both monthly sponsors and one-time donations to support Heartbridge Pediatric Healing Unit. These funds are used for the most urgent needs that arise, like emergency medical care or medicine. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Individuals or groups contributing a one time donation will receive a photo collage of the children receiving care at Heartbridge.
