Success Stories

Born in December 2006 in Anhui Province, little Wan had a rough start in life. Born with a serious heart defect, she actually had to be resuscitated twice while in the hospital awaiting corrective surgery. Thank goodness, Wan is a little fighter, and her surgery was a success! Oh, but she was still SO TINY! When she was released back to the orphanage in June, we began sending her a nutritious infant formula and rice cereal to help her grow stronger. Wan began to grow healthier and stronger. Just a few months later, we saw the beginning of a double-chin in photos received from her orphanage. Just six months later, we determined that Wan was up to a safe weight and could continue to grow and thrive on the regular cereal and formula used by the orphanage. Some day soon, we hope to hear that Wan has found her forever family through the Waiting Child adoption program.

Lei is a child who is dear to the hearts of many LWB volunteers. He was brought to us during our cleft mission trip in October 2005 with such a severe cleft lip and palate that he had barely survived. Two years later, after plenty of good formula and cereal, lip and palate surgery, and plenty of love from his foster parents, Lei made it to the 75th percentile for height and the 90th percentile for weight. In short, he is a little tank! Lei has been given the gifts of life, health and love, and all of us at LWB rejoiced when we learned he had found his forever family as well.

Remember this happy fellow?
I have more good news to share: If you remember this little sweetheart with club feet from our last update…he is now safely in Beijing for corrective casting. I was thrilled to hear the doctor say, "He is the fattest, cutest baby I have seen from an orphanage for a long time. He was obviously loved and cared for very well." That is the kind of thing we love to hear! Hopefully now adoption can be a part of his future too.
