Most orphanages are likely to have at least a few children who were born with cleft lip and palate. This condition makes feeding particularly difficult as these little ones cannot create a good seal around the bottle nipple, or generate the suction needed to get enough formula into their tummies. Feeding can be made so much easier by using a special bottle designed especially for babies with cleft palate. These bottles are made of a soft, flexible plastic, in an oblong shape, that can be gently squeezed to assist with a baby's sucking efforts. In many cases, these bottles are truly a life-saving gift.

The incidence of cleft defects is twice as high in Asia as it is among the Caucasian population. In spite of this overwhelming need, cleft bottles are not currently available in China. LWB coordinates efforts to purchase and send Mead Johnson cleft bottles to orphanages that need them. We would like to express our gratitude to all the families who have donated and/or hand-delivered bottles to various orphanages throughout China. Your efforts have made such a difference!
We would like to encourage all adoptive families to include a pack of cleft bottles in their orphanage gifts. Bottles can be purchased at a discount from the Fujiankids website, or an entire case can be purchased from Enfamil Home Delivery.
If you are carrying Mead Johnson cleft bottles to an orphanage, please feel free to print out and enclose our instruction sheet (printed in Chinese) on how to feed a cleft-affected baby and care for the bottles.
