Shantou is a coastal city located in eastern Guangdong province. It is one of the most densely populated regions in China with a population close to 4 million people. It is a manufacturing center and its leading export is toys. Additionally, it is home to one of the province’s most prestigious universities, Shantou University.

The Shantou foster care program began in April 2005. It started with just six children, but the program has expanded to include twenty children. Many of the children have special needs such as heart defects or cleft lip and palates.

We are happy to report the majority of the children currently in Shantou Foster Care have had their papers submitted for adoption. What a blessing it is for these children to have an opportunity for extra care and a family experience before they find their own forever families!

The sponsorship cost for this program is $35 per month. Each child in the program has two sponsors, which enables full coverage of the program's expenses. Sponsors receive monthly reports that include the child's basic information, developmental updates, and photographs of the child.
