With 30 current college students and 56 high school students scheduled to graduate this year, we are in need of funding to allow these students to attend college. Individual sponsorships begin at $1,350, or $112.50 per month, for the 2008-09 school year. However, your donation in any amount will help to ensure that these students will have the opportunity to continue to attend college or to attend college after graduation from high school. Students in this program include orphaned, abandoned, and impoverished students in remote Tibetan communities of Qinghai Province, as well as children that currently live in social welfare institutes.
Your gift of higher education will ensure a brighter future for these children. Our current college students are excelling in their studies, and some of their stories are shared on our Education Success Stories web page. Many of our students will ultimately give back to the communities they are from.
Donors to this program will receive regular updates on the children they support.
This project, supported by the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), is designed for high school and college students and invites domestic and foreign experts to increase social awareness of mental health education through participation in campus lectures and the series' course "Life Education—The Fundamentals of a Successful Life."
The main purposes are to provide students with healthy thinking modes and to help them cultivate healthy self-images, develop positive interpersonal skills, solve conflicts, cultivate character, and understand sexuality. Activities guide students through the difficult stage from adolescence to young adulthood and encourage students to become healthy, optimistic, and responsible young adults. Aims of the program are to reduce and prevent suicide, depression, anxiety, and drug abuse, as well as to reduce sexual promiscuity and thus reduce sexual diseases, teenage pregnancy, and AIDS.
Donations to this project will help to bring this valuable training to students in remote western China who would not otherwise have access to it. More information on this project is located on the RCSC's website at: www.nphe.org/english.htm.
LWB has very dedicated teaching staff in all of our Education programs. Each year our teachers attend training sessions, such as Montessori training in Beijing, to learn how to best work with their students. At these sessions, teachers have the opportunity to exchange ideas and learn new methods. The students are often sad when school closes for their teachers to receive professional development, but they are always happy when their teachers return with new teaching methods.
Teachers from Changde, Hunan; Jingzhou, Hubei; Huainan, Anhui; and Shantou, Guangdong have the opportunity to attend a special teacher conference through International China Concern (ICC) in Changsha, Hunan. Training is focused on normal child development, needs of children, bonding, and children with special needs.
Financial support for teacher training is critical so that our teachers can receive the best training possible. Our teachers are committed to their students, and we are equally dedicated to them as professionals.
